former 3D Render/GFX artist
beginner web developer
hello, I am Yufei!
You can probably relate to me, as I used to try to find my passion by experimenting with many different things during middle school until high school.
I am a former GFX artist and 3D modeler for mostly Roblox games back then from 2020 until 2024. The essential tools I used were Photoshop and Blender. Like almost everyone,
I started out by making some GFX for fun and selling some of my work to my friends for a small amount of money.
Not long after, I started to gain traction through joining GFX communities on Discord and Twitter (X) and started to get more and more clients.
Things did work out pretty well and I made a decent earning while gaining more fame in the Roblox community and experience especially through advertisements on Twitter (X) or Discord.
But eventually, as all things have a beginning and an end, I became burnt out during times because I was neglecting some school work in order to focus on making money.
Soon enough, I became totally burnt out for graphic design and decided to take a break. And um... I never really came back to making GFX because I put more time and effort into school.
I still look back at my own graphic designs from time to time and wonder how I had the time and patience to make all of that, like I'm totally blown away by my own work.
As for the 3D modelling aspect, I knew how to make some basic low poly stuff but I also tried to model a high poly car, which, as you might've guessed, didn't work out quite well.
The majority of my 3D modelling career wasn't really making sales but rather having fun in making stuff I like. I did work on a Roblox game with other developers on one game but that game didn't really make it.
Honestly, I believe those 4 years weren't wasted at all and I think I did find one of my passions in life.
With my experience in graphic design, I began exploring other areas, such as web development, as I figured that my skills would be useful in designing websites.
I didn't really start to do some programming stuff until I signed up for a 1 week course for HTML and CSS at a 42 coding school on-campus in 2024. Near the end of 2025 I developed an interest for Linux servers and this whole networking stuff.
At that time I was passionate about hosting stuff and getting into this whole homelabbing rabbithole thing. I even hosted a Minecraft server for multiple friends to play on for a couple of months. I'm glad to have earned some skills in that.
To be honest, the actual goal with my interest for computers, which started out when I got my first PC at 8, is to eventually land a job somewhere in this field. I mean it only makes sense to do what I have the most fun in.
Now in 2026, I am seriously beginning to learn all this programming stuff. I believe starting out in web development was a good choice and I guess one way to do this is to to just buy a domain and host a website on it.
